This website is dedicated to the bouldering on the grit crags in and around North and West Yorkshire.
The Crags. Most of the major crags and many of the minor crags in the area are described here, in varying levels of detail. Guides (in PDF format) are available for some crags. Some notable crags are missing - if you can help with these please get in touch.
Grades. The Font grade system has become established in the area and is used throughout this website, except for longer problems or micro-routes, for which traditional British grades are used. V grades are indicated in brackets. Some problems are marked "?", indicating that either the problem is a project and has not yet been climbed, or that the grade is unknown.
Videos. Short video clips are available for some problems. Quicktime 7 is required to play these.
Features for Registered Members. There are three features available to registered members - comments, grade voting and tick lists. You'll need to register and log in to use these features.
Comments. Each problem has a comments page, where you can post any comments about the problem. Any type of constructive comment is encouraged, whether it's questioning the grade, asking for or giving beta, comments about the problem's quality, variations on the problem etc. Offensive, insulting or aggressive comments will be deleted.
Grade voting. Grade voting is possible for all problems with Font grades. If you vote for a particular grade and then later change your mind, you can change or delete your vote. You can see who's voted what on each problem's grade vote details page. Please don't vote if you haven't done the problem.
The voting directly affects the grades that appear on the website: for any problem with two or more votes, the grade is calculated automatically from the votes.
Tick List. You can create a "tick list" of boulder problems you've climbed. Once you've registered and logged in, visit a problem's page, fill in the date at the bottom of the right-hand menu and click "Tick". You can see and edit your complete tick list at any time.
Contributions. Any kind of contributions is welcome - photos, video clips, or information on new crags or problems. Upload your contribution on the Contribute page, or get in touch via the Contact page.
RSS Feeds. Two RSS feeds are available, one with the latest additions to the website (photos, videos, database entries etc), and one for the latest comments posted on the site. Check the feeds page for more information.
Disclaimer. Climbing is dangerous! Even bouldering has its risks, with plenty of high-ball problems that border on soloing, and lots of boulder-strewn, ankle-snapping landings. yorkshiregrit.com can take no responsibility for your actions. Do not trust the grades, description or comments on this website - always use your own judgement before attempting any boulder problem, and climb within your limits.
